How
to use the Family Calendar
This is the place to post those special events! There's no limit to what you may post to the calendar, but it should reflect those events that would be open to your particular branch of the family tree. This would include items such as:
- Family Reunions
- Weddings
- Graduations
There is no registration for the calendar. When you open the calendar, it will display as "Public Access." There is a "logon" option, but this is only for administrator access. Anyway, if you were to register, you would be creating a calendar that was only available to you, and no one but you would be able to access your special event! That would kind of defeat the whole purpose of a Family Calendar, right?
Navigation
It's best viewed as a full page. If you're using Internet Explorer,
press F-11 to minimize and maximize the Calendar. In this view, it's
easier to see the drop down boxes at the bottom of the page. These allow
you to easily ump to any week, month, or year.
Add An Event
Click the "plus" sign to add an event.
It will look like this:
![]()
To post an event, simply navigate to the date you want, and click the plus sign located in the upper right corner of that date box. Then, a four tab window will open, but you need only fill in the first two:
- Details Tab: This is where you provide the details of your event. Under "Brief Description," just provide your event with a name, such as "Hall-Meadows Reunion." Under "Full Description," give a more detailed description that might limit the number of family members that would actually show up. For example, you might want to describe details that only certain members would understand: "The 12th Annual Hall-Meadows Reunion at Granny Hall's House in Malone, Florida." This is sufficient information so that only family members of this particular branch of the Hall and Meadows families would understand. After all, there are thousands and thousands of Halls and Meadows... you don't want them all showing up at Granny Hall's house, do you?
- Scheduling Tab: This is where you choose a date and duration. Rather simple.
After that, click the save button... and voila! ... nothing happens. In fact, your event will NOT appear on the calendar. What will happen, is that an e-mail will be sent to me, requiring that I either approve or deny the event. But don't worry... it will be approved! This is just a necessary procedure to prevent obscene hacker-type displays in the calendar. After all, this is all open to billions of Internet Users!
