Introduction
The Great American Family (thegreatamericanfamily.com) respects each individual’s right to personal privacy. We will collect and use information through our website only in the ways disclosed in this statement. This statement applies solely to information collected at The Great American Family’s Website.
Part I. Information Collection
The Great American Family collects information through our website at several points. We collect the following information about primary visitors:
- Names
- E-Mail addresses
- Residency Locations
- Dates of Birth and Other Vital Statistics
We may also collect similar types of information, which our Users divulge about other people, however, we do not actively solicit information from children, and we never knowingly ask a child under 13 to divulge personal information.
We collect demographic data in order to determine the geographical range of our families, and to demonstrate their historical migration patterns.
We verify the accuracy of this information by obtaining the input and feedback of our Users, genealogical research instruments, and other Internet-based research tools.
We collect this information exclusively through registration forms and solicitations for e-mail messages. We employ no clickstream tracking, automatic logging files, or any other surreptitious methods. This information is collected voluntarily; however, since our services are based on the sharing of data, solicitations for such information are frequently presented. The information we request is optional; however, in order to have access to our Family E-Mail Database, registration is mandatory because it establishes, through reasonable means, that the user has an actual interest in mutual contact with family members.
We may employ cookies. A cookie is a small text file that our Web server places on a user’s computer hard drive to be a unique identifier.
Banner advertising will not appear on our website.
Part II. Information Usage
The information collected by The Great American Family will be available for use by all other Internet Users, except certain personal information related to Living Persons. All Users will receive access to a statistical genealogical database (as may be limited) and access to a Calendar of Events. Users who identify themselves will receive access to a Family E-Mail Database and e-mail announcements.
When you provide information to this site, you are assured that no personal information will be divulged (such as dates of birth) for any Living Person. No purposeful disclosures will occur over the Internet or any other manner. Prior to uploading data to our server, we run a program that will prohibit the display of any living person's vital personal information. For such purposes, our computers are set so that anyone under 110 years of age are assumed to be living, and all vital statistics of such persons will be withheld from publication.
We share no data with any third parties, other than that available to any User of our website.
We may offer links to other websites. When you click on links to other websites, we encourage you to read their privacy policies. Their standards may differ significantly from ours.
Our website offers a forum. Please be advised that information posted in these venues becomes public knowledge.
If our policy on information collection or uses changes, will advise you by e-mail (if you are registered), or by a 30-day Home Page link to this site.
Part III. Access to Information
The Great American Family maintains the accuracy of our information by verification of genealogical data through the feedback of our Users, genealogical research instruments, and other Internet-based research tools. Users may access their own personal information and contact us about inaccuracies they may find, and Users may delete their private information from our database by sending us a request as stated on our Deletion of Private Information Form.
